Get to know Plastic Surgeon Dr. David W. Furnas, who serves patients in Corona Del Mar, California.

A native of Idaho, Dr. Furnas is a plastic surgeon who joined the University of California, Irvine in 1969 and found its plastic surgery residency program. Since 1980, he has served as Clinical Professor and Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery.

The University of California, Irvine is one of the 10 campuses in the University of California system. It offers 87 undergraduate degrees and 129 graduate and professional degrees. Dr. Furnas was honored recently for his career of nearly three decades at the University, where he is recognized as a leading international practitioner, researcher, writer, lecturer, and educator in the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery. Additionally, Dr. Furnas is on the Advisory Board of the African Medical & Research Foundation.

Dr. Furnas is a member of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, which is the world’s leading professional body for board-certified aesthetic plastic surgeons. Founded in 1970, ISAPS membership includes the world’s best known and respected reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgeons in over 100 countries on every continent reflecting the true international mission of the organization.

Plastic surgery is a surgical specialty involving the restoration, reconstruction, or alteration of face and body. A plastic surgeon operates on a patient’s face or body in order to repair or reconstruct the area. Plastic surgeons may perform two types of surgery: cosmetic surgery to improve appearance and reconstructive surgery to correct appearance after an injury or to improve bodily function.
