Get to know Breast Surgeon Dr. Julie A. O’Brien, who serves patients in Derry, New Hampshire. 

Dr. O’Brien is a board-certified general surgeon whose clinical interests include advanced breast surgical techniques, axillary lymph node dissection, benign breast disease, breast cancer, breast-conserving surgery, high-risk breast cancer screening, intraoperative breast radiation therapy, multidisciplinary breast cancer care, non-wire localization lumpectomy, and risk-reducing surgery. 

In addition to being a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at Tufts University School of Medicine, she is affiliated with Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts, and Lahey Comprehensive Breast Health Center at Parkland Medical Center in Derry, New Hampshire.

At the Comprehensive Breast Health Center at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, patients have easy access to a full range of breast health services, including 2-D and 3-D mammography, breast ultrasound and breast MRI, minimally invasive breast biopsies, treatments for benign and malignant breast disease, genetic counseling, and risk assessment. An expert team of specialists provide the highest quality comprehensive diagnostic care and treatment at three locations: Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington, Lahey Medical Center in Peabody, and Lahey Comprehensive Breast Health Center at Parkland Medical Center in Derry, New Hampshire. 

In regards to her educational background, Dr. O’Brien earned her medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School in 2005. She then went on to complete her general surgery internship and residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. This was followed by a fellowship in breast surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. 

For the purpose of enhancing her efforts, the doctor remains a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the Massachusetts Medical Society, and the New Hampshire Medical Society. Additionally, she is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery, an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.
