  • Are oats a healthy breakfast option?

Yes! Oats/oatmeal provides fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants without added sugars. READ MORE

  • Can obesity be caused by genetics?

Yes! It's largely caused by your genetic blueprint and chronic dieting (altering your metabolism and your natural set point weight over time). Many will tell you its "caused" by other behaviors but ultimately the inability to sustain diet behaviors are the culprit. READ MORE

  • Is nutmeg tea safe?

If you are referring to a powdered version, my suggestion is to use no more than 1/2 tsp (and definitely less than 1 tsp) as myristicin is an incredibly potent and dangerous compound when taken in large amounts. If you are using the essential oil to make the tea, stop immediately as that is a toxic. READ MORE

  • What essential oils can be safely added to foods?

I only ever suggest certified therapeutic grades such as Young Living and never anything over the counter (don't be fooled by organic labeling as that is not reliable labeling for purity). This is because Young Living oils are pure, without added fillers, additives etc and in-house and third party tested. One drop is all you need as they are potent compounds. Having said that, you can get the benefits from essentials oils by using them topically or inhaling, too. Those methods are just as effective. There are certain oils that should never be ingested... tea tree, eucalyptus, and wintergreen. READ MORE

  • Is it okay to have only fruits for breakfast?

Yes, however including some protein (banana with nut butter, hardboiled egg, nuts etc) will help to keep you fuller and possibly satisfied for a longer period of time. READ MORE

  • Is it safe to go off rice and wheat for a long period of time?

There is no long term evidenced based data to show that restricting wheat or rice is necessary for optimal health with exception of those diagnosed properly by an MD with Celiac disease or gluten intolerance. For those people, gluten which is found in wheat is omitted from the diet but rice is ok. Carbohydrates are critical for energy and if restricted without appropriate substitutes can leave you feeling less energetic. In short, it could be "safe" but completely unnecessary and not fun! At her private practice, VeriWell, in Cohasset, Massachusetts, Angela offers a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment as she helps people find freedom with food and make peace with their bodies. She does so using a non-diet approach, which supports body attunement, self-esteem, and body acceptance to optimize health without regard to weight.

“After many years of work, education and raising a family, I’m ready to share my experiences and expertise with you. My hope is for you to free yourself from what diet culture dictates as the ideal…unsustainable diets, unrealistic trends, and unattainable weights. I help you become attuned to signals of hunger and fullness, identify and challenge distorted thinking about food and weight, develop a positive body image, and above all…be kind to your body because it’s your home.” as stated by Angela on her website.

With a unique expertise in nutrition and wellness, her career began after she received both her Bachelor of Science degree and her Master of Arts degree in Nutrition from Immaculata College, outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She completed her didactic internship at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center in Reading, Pennsylvania, after which she obtained the Integration and Functional Nutrition certification through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She has additional training in eating disorder and body image treatment, vegetarianism, and wellness.

Attributing her success to following her lifelong passion, receiving supervision from her mentors, self compassion and faith, Angela is working towards becoming a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor.

Human nutrition deals with the provision of essential nutrients in food that are necessary to support human life and health. Poor nutrition is a chronic problem often linked to poverty, food security or a poor understanding of nutrition and dietary practices. A dietitian is an expert in dietetics; that is, human nutrition and the regulation of diet. A dietitian alters their patient’s nutrition based upon their medical condition and individual needs. Dietitians are regulated healthcare professionals licensed to assess, diagnose and treat nutritional problems.

A nutritionist is a person who advises others on matters of food and nutrition and their impacts on health. Some people specialize in particular areas, such as sports nutrition, public health, or animal nutrition, among other disciplines.
