Dr. Aleksandra Marinovic is a licensed Clinical Psychologist with over ten years of experience in a variety of mental health treatment areas. She earned her Bachelors of Psychology from University of California, Santa Cruz and went on to earn her Masters and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Alliant International University, San Diego (previously California School of Professional Psychology). Dr. Marinovic completed her American Psychological Association predoctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship at University of San Diego.
Dr. Marinovic has received excellent theoretical and practical training in a variety of settings and modalities including the Department of Defense, University of California San Diego Medical Center, substance abuse programs, outpatient community clinics, eating disorder treatment centers, and outpatient psychotherapy offices. One of her most personally and professionally fulfilling roles was as the Staff Clinical Psychologist at Naval Medical Center San Diego where she worked for over eight years.
Dr. Marinovic has a multitude of experience working within the military setting, treating active duty patients with a wide range of psychological diagnoses, including specialized training and work with trauma related disorders, substance abuse disorders, depression, anxiety, adjustment related issues, family/relationship problems, young-adult/college issues, life-transitions, personal growth, and self-acceptance. Dr. Marinovic relies heavily on evidence-based treatment and has strong skills in intervention, assessment, consultation, group therapy, supervision of staff, fitness for duty assessments, and advocating for the interests of her patients and their families. Her approach includes CBT, family systems, DBT, and positive psychology treatment methods.
Dr. Marinovic previously held the position of Clinical Director at a psychiatric facility specializing in addiction across different levels of care (detox, residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient program) on California’s Central Coast where she reimagined the clinical department to best meet the needs of clients and c0-designed the facility's first evidence-based curriculum. Currently, she is providing specialized forensic assessments and CASOMB-certified specific treatment for adult clients as well as non-offending spouses, partners, and other family members. In addition, Dr. Marinovic has successfully maintained private practices in San Diego and in San Luis Obispo, California where she currently resides.
Dr. Marinovic is highly regarded by her colleagues and clients for her warm, caring, non-judgmental approach and the ability to provide her clients a safe space to address today’s stressors. She has a deep curiosity, appreciation, and respect for each person’s individuality and is an active listener who provides open, honest feedback in a compassionate and respectful manner. Dr. Marinovic works collaboratively with her clients and believes that recovery from psychological distress is fully possible. In her off time, she is an avid Bar Method member for nine years, enjoys being active, loves gourmet food and desserts, baking, spending time with loved ones, and arts-and-crafts.
