Get to know Plastic Surgeon Dr. Tim Matatov, who serves patients in Arizona.

Dr. Matatov is a highly-skilled, double board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon. He practices alongside Dr. Joseph Zakhary at Breast Southwest & Aesthetics, with offices in Phoenix and Chandler, Arizona.

Restoring the form and function of his patients, he specializes in microsurgery, breast aesthetic and reconstructive surgery, as well as aesthetic and reconstructive surgery of face and body. He performs several aspects of reconstructive surgery, such as flap reconstructions, implant reconstructions, corrective reconstructions, second stage reconstructions, and post-mastectomy reconstructions.

Educated in the United States, Dr. Matatov obtained his undergraduate education at the Brooklyn College City University of New York, before attending the Ross University School of Medicine in West Indies. Prior to his three years of plastic and reconstructive surgery training at Tulane University, he completed a five-year general surgery residency at Louisiana State University, and was appointed as an Administrative Chief Resident during the final years of both his general surgery and plastic surgery training.

As a testament of his continued education, he is board-certified in plastic surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). The mission of the ABPS is to promote safe, ethical, efficacious plastic surgery to the public by maintaining high standards for the education, examination, certification, and continuous certification of plastic surgeons as specialists and subspecialists.

Furthermore, he is board-certified in surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.

On a professional level, Dr. Matatov is a member of the American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery, which is known for advancing the field of microsurgery through education and technique refinement. He is also a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.

Recognized for his compassionate patient care, clinical judgment, and surgical skills, he is on the Editorial Board of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal, Cureus Journal, and International Wound Care Journal. He is also a contributing author for Current Dialogues in Wound Healing.

Plastic surgery is a surgical specialty involving the restoration, reconstruction, or alteration of the human body. A plastic surgeon’s primary responsibility is performing surgical and non-surgical procedures, and they use a variety of reparative and reconstructive techniques to get the job done.

Having had the honor of being voted by fellow physicians in the valley as a “Top Doc” in Phoenix Magazine in 2019, 2020 and 2021, Dr. Matatov was selected to represent Louisiana State University at Surgical Jeopardy during The Louisiana Chapter and the 95th annual Clinical Congress in 2012 and 2009.

On a more personal note, he is fluent in English and Russian.
