Since July of 2018, Dr. Skipton has been serving as a general surgeon at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth.

Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, formerly Naval Hospital Portsmouth, and originally Norfolk Naval Hospital, is a United States Navy medical center in Portsmouth, Virginia, United States. It is the oldest continuously running hospital in the Navy medical system.

Graduating with her medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University in 2013, Dr. Skipton went on to further her training. She performed her residency in general surgery at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital from 2013 until 2018.

To date, she remains an active member of the American College of Surgeons, which is dedicated to improving the care of the surgical patient and to safeguarding standards of care in an optimal and ethical practice environment.

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland.
