Get to know Certified Respiratory Therapist Getachew Bekalu, who serves patients in Elk Grove, California.

Getachew is a certified respiratory therapist at Mercy General Hospital in Elk Grove, California. His areas of expertise include respiratory therapy, intensive care, cardiac surgery, and emergency medicine.

Back in the early days of his academic career, Getachew graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree in Respiratory Therapy from Loma Linda University in 2008.

With more than a decade of experience in his field, he holds certifications in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. He also remains a professional member of the American Association for Respiratory Care.

Getachew attributes his professional success to God as well as to his mother, who raised four young children alone and instilled a great work ethic and foundation for them. 

Respiratory therapy is the assessment and treatment of patients with both acute and chronic dysfunction of the cardiopulmonary system. A certified respiratory therapist is a specialized healthcare practitioner trained in pulmonary medicine in order to work therapeutically with people suffering from pulmonary disease. 

When he is not working, Dr. Bekalu enjoys music, including jazz, the guitar, and the keyboard.
