Dr. Alyson Engle is a double board-certified Anesthesiologist and Interventional Pain Medicine with multiple certifications in advanced pain procedures. She specializes in opioid-free pain medicine and focus’ on her patients' gender and genetic differences in acute and chronic pain conditions.
After earning her bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, she attended medical school at The George Washington University followed by an internship at Georgetown University Washington Hospital Center.
Dr. Engle completed her anesthesiology residency training at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and then completed an interventional pain fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Throughout her career she has been the recipient of several clinical research awards from The National Institutes of Health, The Sheikh Zayed Institute for Innovation, Thompson Chemistry, among others. Her research works include pain medicine, clinical trials, genomics, vaccine development, cancer, immunotherapeutics and tissue engineering.
Dr. Engle practices Pain Medicine in Charleston, WV. Pain medicine is concerned with the prevention of pain, and the evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients experiencing pain. Pain medicine physicians use a broad-based approach to treat all pain disorders, ranging from pain as a symptom of disease to pain as the primary disease. Dr. Engle serves as a consultant to other physicians but is often the principal treating physician, providing care at various levels; such as treating the patient directly using cutting-edge novel therapies in combinatin with a personalized multi-modal pain regimen for each patient.
