Get to know Gynecologist, Genital Plastic Surgeon, and Gynecologic Oncologist Dr. Christopher V. Lutman, who serves patients in California.

Dr. Lutman is a highly regarded gynecologist, genital plastic surgeon, and gynecologic oncologist. He has over twenty-five years of experience in caring for women, helping them to thrive, grow, and live their best life. 

At his bilingual office in Pismo Beach, California, he helps women at all stages along their health journey and empowers them to maintain and improve their wellness along the way. His mission is to provide unparalleled excellence in gynecology, pelvic surgery, women’s cancer care, and palliative care.

Recognized as a master pelvic surgeon and an expert in palliative care, some of the services that he offers include:

• Genital plastics and cosmetic gynecology (offering the latest expert techniques in cosmetic labiaplasty and vaginal reconstruction for tightening and improving sexual satisfaction);

With a solid educational background, Dr. Lutman received his medical degree with honors from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1995. He then served his residency in gynecology at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1990, followed by his fellowship in gynecologic oncology at Duke University Hospital in 2005. He also proudly served as a surgeon and medical officer in the United States Navy for eight years, and completed advanced training in genital plastic surgery at the highly regarded Labiaplasty and Vaginoplasty Training Institute with Dr. Michael Goodman, an internationally known expert in the field.

In 2016, Dr. Lutman brought his unique talents and signature expertise to the women and families of the Central Coast. He currently directs the only comprehensive gynecologic oncology program between Santa Barbara and San Jose focused solely on providing comprehensive care to women affected by gynecologic cancers. He also provides expert general gynecology consultation and continuity of care services to women affected by a wide variety of non-cancer conditions such as menopause, endometriosis, pelvic organ prolapse, vulvar, vaginal and cervical problems, pelvic pain, and sexual health issues – to name a few.

A Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, he is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, gynecologic oncology & hospice and palliative medicine by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The mission of the ABOG is to define standards, certify obstetricians and gynecologists, and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health.

In 2020, Dr. Lutman joined the staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. His other hospital affiliations include French Hospital Medical Center, Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, and Marian Regional Medical Center. 

With a bedside manner second to none, his profound expertise is always delivered to his patients and their families with the utmost humility and professionalism. He is regionally and internationally known for his compassionate style and devotion. He is also widely considered by his peers and his patients to be a five star surgeon and a “doctor’s doctor.”

Gynaecology or gynecology is the medical practice dealing with the health of the female reproductive system. Gynecologists give reproductive and sexual health services that include pelvic exams, Pap tests, cancer screenings, and testing and treatment for vaginal infections. They diagnose and treat reproductive system disorders such as endometriosis, infertility, ovarian cysts, and pelvic pain.

Gynecologic oncology is a specialized field of medicine that focuses on cancers of the female reproductive system, including ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, vaginal cancer, cervical cancer, and vulvar cancer. As specialists, gynecologic oncologists have extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of these cancers.

Regarded as a national and international expert in gynecologic oncology and palliative medicine, Dr. Lutman regularly publishes articles and book chapters on these topics. He has been a frequently invited expert speaker at many regional, national, and international venues.

Among his numerous accolades, he is the recipient of Patients’ Choice Award (2008), Top 10 Doctor – State (2014), and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2015, 2016).
