  • What type of mattress is best for side sleepers with back pain?

Hello and thanks for your question. I recommend a medium firm mattress with a pillow-top. Medium firm refers to the strength of the springs. The pillowtop will soften the pressure on your hips and shoulder when in the side-lying position. I recommend a pillow between your knees that can be quite helpful for back or hip pain, It is important to turn the mattress according to the manufacturer’s recommendation. READ MORE

  • Why do chiropractors crack your toes?

Hello and thank you for the question. Joint spaces contain gas. When a Chiropractic adjustment is performed, the joint space opens releasing the gas resulting in a sound. This is true of when air or gas pressures change resulting in a sound. Some examples are thunder and music from speakers. Like any other joint, toes can misalign and benefit from adjusting. • What happens after frozen shoulder manipulation?

Thank you for your question. There is a capsule that surrounds the shoulder joint. In frozen shoulder that capsule tightens and restricts motion. I liken it to shrink wrap. Treatment requires a combination of therapy, stretching, exercise and chiropractic adjustment. The therapy focused on loosening the capsule and relaxing the muscles of the shoulder and upper back.. The adjustment works to realign the shoulder, clavicle, and ribs, if needed. In severe cases I will refer to an orthopedist and coordinate treatment. Home stretching and exercise reinforces the treatment provided in the office. READ MORE

  • What is the best home remedy for plantar fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis can be quite painful and debilitating. I recommend you try the following 1. Gently warm the bottom of the foot (feet) 2. Sit in a chair and gently roll the bottom of your foot on a soft ball such as a tennis ball 3. Ice massage the bottom of your foot. Fill a paper cup with water and freeze. Remove the bottom of the cup to expose the ice. Wet the bottom of the exposed ice to dampen to avoid the ice sticking to your foot. Rub the bottom of your foot (ffet) with the ice. Do this for a few miunutes. Place the cup of ice back in the freezer. Perform 3 days in a row. Take 1-2 days off and repeat 4. Consider the herbal remedies Turmeric and Arnica 5. Perform stretches for the foot I hope you find this info helpful. Sincerely, Robert A. Schwartz, DC READ MORE

  • Do ankle sprains ever fully heal?

Hi, When ankles are sprained, the ligaments are weakened and can take some time to heal. However, many report repeatedly injuring the same area. I have found that there is a sense called proprioception. This sense tells the joints where they are in space. As an example, if you close yours eyes and hold your arm forward, this sense allow you to know where the arm is. When an ankle is sprained, ankle proprioception is disturbed. This is what leads to repetitive injury. The solution is retraining the ankle on a wobble board. Wobble boards are available everywhere. When proprioception is restored, the ankle will fully heal. All the best! Rob Schwartz, D.C. READ MORE
