Get to know Endocrinologist Dr. Sangeeta Chandramahanti, who serves patients in Bakersfield, California.

A well-versed endocrinologist, Dr. Chandramahanti works with patients at Kern Medical in Bakersfield, California. She is also available at the outpatient locations in Bakersfield: Columbus Physician Offices and 9330 Stockdale Services.

Specializing in treating Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, She has expertise in insulin resistance, diabetes in pregnancy, and insulin pumps. She is also skilled in treating thyroid, parathyroid, pituitary, adrenal and lipid disorders and treats women for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), menopause, bone disorders such as osteoporosis, and hormonal disorders. Furthermore, she offers treatment for obesity and weight loss, including follow-up care for weight loss surgery.

As a Kern Medical physician, Dr. Chandramahanti is an Assistant Professor on the UCLA teaching faculty. Her research work has been published in the European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and the Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism.

A Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology (FACE), she is a member of a number of medical associations and societies, including the American College of Physicians, the Endocrine Society, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and the Medical Council of India.

Receiving her initial medical training in India, Dr. Chandramahanti earned her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and medical degrees. After relocating to the United States, she completed an internship in internal medicine at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, Connecticut where she was recognized as Outstanding Ambulatory Senior Resident. She also received the American Cancer Society’s Best Resident Screening Award. She then held a postgraduate fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia.

Licensed to practice medicine in California, the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine and endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Endocrinology is a branch of biology and medicine dealing with the endocrine system, its diseases, and its specific secretions known as hormones. Endocrinologists have the training to diagnose and treat hormone imbalances and problems by helping to restore the normal balance of hormones in the body. The common diseases and disorders of the endocrine system that endocrinologists deal with include diabetes mellitus, as well as adrenal, pituitary, and thyroid disorders, among others.

Happily married, Dr. Chandramahanti and her husband have a daughter. They live in Bakersfield and enjoy cycling and shopping. She can converse in English, Hindi, Telugu, and Spanish.
