Academically, Dr. Chaney attended Tougaloo College and attained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry in 1973. She then attended the University of Mississippi Medical School, where she received her medical degree in 1977. She then went on to complete her residency in pediatrics at the Childrens’ Hospital at UMC in 1981.
Recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP), the doctor attained board certification in pediatrics through the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). The mission of the ABP is to advance child health by certifying pediatricians who meet standards of excellence and are committed to continuous learning and improvement.
Over the last 30 years, her professional activities have included: Director of Pediatrics at Jackson Hinds Comprehensive Health Center; Senior Medical Consultant – Social Security Disability Agency; Chief of Pediatrics – Central Mississippi Medical Center and St. Dominic Hospital; and Blue Cross Blue Shield Physician credentialing and Medical Policy Consultant; President of Mississippi Medical and Surgical Society, President of Jackson Medical Society and past trustee of the Mississippi Medical and Surgical Association. She also served on the National Advisory Corporation and on the Mississippi State Board of Health, and currently serves on the Board of the Mississippi Public Health Institute.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends individuals be under pediatric care up to the age of 21. Pediatricians provide medical care to people ranging in age from newborns to young adults. On a more personal note, she is the 5th child of 9 children born to Robert Raymond and Helen Owen Chaney. Happily married, her husband, Jesse A. Buie is a healthcare executive, business owner and a private pilot. Together, they have 2 daughters, Yolanda and Crystal.
