Get to know Interventional Radiologist Dr. Talal S. Akhter, who serves patients in Chicago, Illinois.

An excellent interventional radiologist, Dr. Akhter is in practice at Midwest Imaging Professionals, LLC in Chicago, Illinois. As an interventional radiologist, Dr. Akhter is passionate about the innovation the field offers and is excited to provide minimally invasive treatment options to improve the lives of his patients. 

Well-versed in all facets of interventional radiology, he is particularly passionate about treating vascular disease (pulmonary embolism, chronic venous insufficiency) and interventional oncology.

Back in the early days of his academic career, Dr. Akhter obtained his medical degree at the Northeast Ohio Medical University before moving to Philadelphia for his residency in radiology at Akron General Medical Center. During these four years, he developed a passion for interventional radiology as he was able to offer extensive diagnostic and clinical service to his patients. He returned to the Midwest to complete his fellowship in vascular and interventional radiology at Indiana University before moving to Chicago, Illinois.

In his professional experience, he can be found on staff at AMITA Health Holy Family Medical Center, AMITA Health Resurrection Medical Center, AMITA Health Saint Francis Hospital, AMITA Health Saint Joseph Hospital, and AMITA Health Saint Mary & Elizabeth Medical Center.

Interventional radiology is a medical specialization that involves performing a range of imaging procedures to obtain images of the inside of the body. Vascular & interventional radiologists focus on diseases of the blood vessels and lymphatic system, but also treat other conditions such as cancer and infertility. They perform minimally invasive treatments that have less risk, pain, and recovery time compared to open surgery.
