Get to know Dermatologist Dr. Joseph M. Duvall, who serves patients in St. Louis, Missouri.

Listed as one of the “Best Doctors” in America for 15 consecutive years, Dr. Duvall has been the Chairman of Dermatology at Mercy Hospital St. Louis since 1983. He treats patients of all ages and has a special interest in severe acne and skin cancer.

Mercy Hospital St. Louis has been a healing presence in the St. Louis region for more than 150 years. Today, the hospital continues providing compassionate medical and specialty care on its centrally located campus at I-270 and I-64/US 40. It offers all-private rooms and the peace of mind of nationally-recognized care.

In regards to his educational background, Dr. Duvall graduated with his medical degree from the  University of Missouri School of Medicine in 1974. He then went on to perform his residency in dermatology at University Hospital.

Specializing in skin care, the doctor is board-certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology (ABD). The ABD is a voluntary, non-profit, private, autonomous organization formed for the primary purpose of protecting the public interest by establishing and maintaining high standards of training, education, and qualifications of physicians rendering care in dermatology.

A Clinical Professor of Dermatology at St. Louis University School of Medicine, Dr. Duvall has taught students and residents for over 35 years. 

Dermatology is the branch of medicine dealing with the skin, the largest organ of the body; a specialty with both medical and surgical aspects. A dermatologist is a specialist doctor who manages skin diseases and deals with both internal and external causes and some cosmetic concerns involving the skin. Dermatological duties include taking consultations, providing screening tests, and undertaking non-invasive surgical procedures.

Among his numerous accolades, Dr. Duvall is the recipient of Patients’ Choice Award (2012, 2014, 2015, 2018) and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2014, 2015, 2016, 2018).
