An Indian native, Dr. Handa-Nayyar received his Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from the University of Delhi, and his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree from the Armed Forces Medical College. After relocating to the United States, he served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, and completed his residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in gastroenterology at the UMDNJ University Hospital.

In pursuit of clinical excellence, the doctor is board-certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
