Get to know Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Zachary R. Henry, who serves patients in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Dr. Henry is a dual board-certified infectious disease specialist serving as the Medical Director at the AHF Healthcare Center – Northpoint in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
“The Northpoint office is filled with great employees that strive to deliver our mission everyday: providing cutting-edge medicine and advocacy regardless of ability to pay. These clinics are an accepting place to patients from all backgrounds where anybody can feel welcome. We strive to meet the needs of our patients so they can live happy and productive lives” as stated on their website.
In his mid 20’s, Dr. Henry’s interest in treating HIV was prompted – well before starting medical school – by what he learned while he shadowed an infectious disease doctor in an outpatient HIV clinic in St. Pete, Florida in conjunction with his many personal experiences with the disease as he watched so many people he was close to by that young age become stricken with it.
In 2014, he graduated with his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. From there, he attended Palmetto General Hospital and completed his residency in internal medicine.
Wanting to further his knowledge in the field, Dr. Henry completed a fellowship in infectious disease with Jackson Health System, where he spent his allocated research/elective time doing presentations, QI projects, and manuscripts on HIV/HCV/STD research. Also, he became trained in High Resolution Anoscopy for the purposes of diagnosing and treating precancerous HPV induced anal neoplasia – one of the most (in his opinion) important aspects of HIV primary care but also one of the most under-rated and under exposed within the medical community
Holding an Osteopathic Physician in Training Licensure through the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, the doctor is board-certified in infectious disease and internal medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOBIM). The AOBIM is an organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine who specialize in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease in adults.
To remain up to date with the latest medical advancements in his field, Dr. Henry maintains membership status with the International Anal Neoplasia Society, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the Florida Medical Association, the American College of Osteopathic Internists, the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association, and the American Osteopathic Association.
Infectious disease is a medical specialty dealing with the prevention, the diagnosis, and the treatment of all infections. An infectious disease specialist’s practice also consists of managing nosocomial (hospital-acquired) infections.
On a more personal note, Dr. Henry attributes his success to having great parents as role models who taught him care, compassion, acceptance, and kindness.
His favorite hobbies are traveling, reading, playing string bass, and trying action/extreme sports like bungee jumping, skydiving, and canyon rappelling.
