Growing up in Beaumont, Texas, he finished high school in the suburbs of Houston, and attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in neurobiology. He was awarded a full-tuition merit-based scholarship and subsequently graduated from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center – Paul L. Foster School of Medicine.

After medical school, Dr. Bhat worked as an intern at Medstar Washington Hospital Center and then completed residency at George Washington University, where he served as co-chief resident in his final year. Following residency, he did a fellowship to specialize in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in ophthalmology through the American Board of Ophthalmology, an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.

Professionally, he is a proud member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American College of Physicians, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
