Get to know Family Medicine Resident Dr. Mohit Chhatpar, who serves patients in Indiana, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Chhatpar is grateful and enthusiastic about being a member of the inaugural class of family medicine residents at Indiana Regional Medical Center (Mahoning Medical Center) in Pennsylvania.
Rural primary care gives him a huge sense of purpose, providing an opportunity to treat and advocate for patients of vulnerable populations. In addition to rural medicine, he is looking forward to exploring his interests in addiction medicine, behavioral health, and community medicine.
Growing up in the suburbs of Long Island in New York, Dr. Chhatpar went to college in the biggest city in the country at New York University, majoring in biology. He went there with the intention of going into medicine as a career and his interest was solidified after a couple of meaningful research and volunteer experiences.
After college, he obtained his Master in Biomedical Sciences degree followed by his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine in the small town of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. While he was new to small town life, he learned a great deal from his interactions while living in a rural setting. He loved it so much that he decided to live and complete his residency training in a similar setting in Indiana, Pennsylvania. Additionally, he chose Indiana Regional Medical Center based on his interactions with the faculty and staff, both virtual and in person, as he felt at home and the treatment he received was second to none. He knew that being treated well as an applicant would translate to being treated well and supported as a resident.
In pursuit of clinical excellence, the doctor is an active member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians, the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association, the American Society of Addiction Medicine, and the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin.
