Get to know Hospitalist Dr. Annabelle Alvarez, who serves patients in Florida.

Dr. Alvarez is an osteopathic doctor specializing in internal medicine and hospital medicine. She is currently working as a hospitalist at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida.

Founded in 1949, Mount Sinai Medical Center is the largest private, independent, not-for-profit teaching hospital in Florida. As a medical center whose mission is to provide high-quality health care to the diverse community, enhanced through teaching, research, charity care, and financial responsibility, Mount Sinai is committed to providing access to expert, compassionate care to all. 

Educated in the United States, Dr. Alvarez graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and her Master of Public Health degree from the University of Miami in 2011 and 2015, respectively. She then went on to earn her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine at Nova Southeastern University in 2019. 

Furthering her training, she performed her residency and fellowship in hospice and palliative care at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami.

Thereafter, she attained board certification in internal medicine through the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOBIM). The AOBIM is an organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DOs) who specialize in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease in adults (internists).

Listing her professional affiliations, Dr. Alvarez is an active member of the American Medical Association and the American Medical Women’s Association.

Hospital medicine is a medical specialty that exists in some countries as a branch of family medicine or internal medicine, dealing with the care of acutely ill hospitalized patients. Hospitalists improve care for hospitalized patients, managing day-to-day care and providing prompt and complete attention to all patient care needs including diagnosis, treatment, and the performance of medical procedures (within their scope of practice).
