Dr. Krista Fitzgerald is an audiologist practicing in Lake Mary, FL. She received her Doctor of Audiology degree from the University of Connecticut in 2013.   • I think I'm partially deaf--what should I do?

    This is enough of a concern to either have your hearing tested by an audiologist or immediately establish care with a Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) physician. If you go to an audiologist and the ears are significantly different in hearing, a CT and/or MRI would need to be ordered and an ENT would be able to do so. READ MORE

  • My hearing loss is being attributed to my mental illness?

    A hearing loss can fluctuate but there are certain diseases that correlate to this. Other tests can be run to declare whether it is a true hearing loss. If the audiologist is refusing to dispense hearing aids it may be because the loss is not aid-able. Ethnically you run the risk of over amplification in this case. I’d you still have concerns with hearing you may want to consider an auditory processing exam. You have to have normal hearing to have the evaluation but your hearing problems.     Yes, he can have a hearing related to the sinus infection. I recommend a proper hearing evaluation and follow up with an ENT. READ MORE

    It shares responsibility. It is not primarily balance. People with hearing loss can suffer from balance issues and people with balance issues can suffer from hearing disorder. Since the apparatus is shared in the same boney structure and they share the same fluids, there are certain diseases that can affect both. READ MORE

A knowledgeable audiologist, Dr. Fitzgerald tends to patients at Atlantic Ear, Nose & Throat, a comprehensive, full-service otolaryngology practice with offices in both Seminole and Volusia counties. Her clinical interests include hearing, balance, electrophysiology, neurophysiology, and intraoperative neuromonitoring.

In regards to her educational background, she received her Doctor of Audiology degree from the University of Connecticut in 2013. Her graduate clinic rotations and research focused heavily on auditory evoked potentials, vestibular testing, peripheral and central hearing pathology, and central auditory processing disorder testing and evaluations.

After graduation, Dr. Fitzgerald accepted a job offer as a surgical neurophysiologist, primarily working with otolaryngologists, neuro-otologists and neurosurgeons.
