An experienced psychiatrist, Dr. Xu is the VA Clerkship Site Director of the VA Western New York Healthcare System. She specializes in treating conditions such as depression, anxiety, OCD, eating disorders, bipolar disorders, personality disorders, insomnia, ADD and other mental illnesses.

The VA Western New York Healthcare System is dedicated to improving the lives of Veterans and their families every day. It provides patients with outstanding health care, trains America’s future health care providers, and conducts important medical research. With 11 locations throughout Western New York, their goal is to use research to promote better health and health care for all.

In addition to her clinical position, Dr. Xu is an Associate Clinical Professor within the Department of Psychiatry at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, an Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University, and an attending physician  at Buffalo Psychiatric Center.

A Chinese native, she earned her medical degree from Xi’an Jiaotong University in 1982. After relocating to the United States, she earned her Master of Science degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1990, and completed fellowships with the University of Michigan and the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in 1993 and 1998, respectively. Wanting to further her education, she completed an additional residency in psychiatry at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in 2002.

Subsequent to her education, she attained board certification in psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.

On a professional level, Dr. Xu is a proud member of the American Psychiatric Association, the Mental Health Association of Erie County, the International Association of Chinese Medical Specialists & Psychologists, the American Professional Practice Association, the American Psychiatric Genetics Association, and the American Medical Association.

Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions. Psychiatrists evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders.
