  • Can drug addiction be cured?

Drug addiction is certainly something that can be worked on and eventually get to a point where one is no longer addicted to it. This is a journey and requires ongoing effort to change your lifestyle and get to the bottom of why the addiction came about in the first place. Typically you will utilize therapy in conjunction with an addiction programs (e.g. AA, NA., etc.). READ MORE

  • Does psychotherapy have side effects?

Sometimes you may experience more anxiety or high levels of other emotions as you process some of the things that come out in therapy, but those are mostly indirect side effects compared to direct. Most psychotherapy is just talking with someone else when put simply. READ MORE

  • Is psychotherapy effective for bipolar disorder?

Absolutely! It is important to note that many bipolar treatments typically involve the use of pharamaceutical interventions, especially depending on the severity. With that being said, psychotherapy is a critical pairing in my opinion and will lagrely focus on bringing awareness to your bipolar symptoms and how they look and feel to you and learning how to manage hypomanic or manic swings before the fully hit. • Can therapy cause more anxiety?

Technically it could cause more anxiety, however I do believe this is an active part of the healing process. It is not easy to deal with our innner feelings and therapy sort of forces the client to work with those feelings, which in turn could cause some anxiety and/or be uncomfortable. You will find that over time, the sessions will likely become beneficial and easier, as you get used to the process and know what to expect. READ MORE

  • Does cognitive-behavioral therapy work for phobias?

Absolutely! CBT may not be the only therapy style that works for phobias, but it certainly is one of the main ones. It will help focus on the negative cognitions behind these phobias and work on reframing them. Your therapist will be able to best determine the approach to use depending on the severity and type of phobia you have. READ MORE

  • Can obesity be reversed?

Obesity can absolutely be reversed through proper diet and exercise. Sometimes we have a mental health component to our weight struggles though and those should always be handled in addition to the better diet and excercise routine. It would also be helpful to see a medical doctor to rule out any specific causes of the obesity (e.g., thyroid issues, blood sugar issues, etc.,). READ MORE

  • How often should you see a doctor for ADHD?

This is entirely up to you and your doctor. Once people feel like they have a good medication that is effective, they may only see their doctor for their refill appointments. I would highly encourage that you meet with your doctor anytime you start to see changes in the patient or feel that their response to medication has changed. Also, many parents choose not to go the medication route and look into counseling/therapy for their child in order to work on executive functioning skills. READ MORE

Get to know Psychologist Michael Pinter, who serves patients in Florida.

Michael is certified and licensed as a school psychologist, providing assessment, counseling, and consultation to students, staff, and parents at Collier County Public Schools in Naples, Florida.

Having exemplified the school psychologist role in his private practice in Bonita Springs, MikeThePsych LLC, he provides services to individuals, couples, and families. Specifically, the service addresses issues with children, adolescents, and adults who present signs of anxiety impulses, depression, despair, obsessive compulsive behaviors, learning difficulties, relationship issues, life stage transitions, divorce challenges or related problems.

“I implement effective counseling methods to instill self-awareness among patients and encourage them to adopt new attitudes and feelings towards life situations. It is essential to keep in mind that counseling is not a magic pill or a quick fix: counseling is a healing process that necessitates participation and investment from the patient and caretaker alike. But in the end, making small changes to self-defeating behavior and coping with feelings of sadness, fear, and pain can bring life-altering results” expressed Michael.

Academically, he earned his Master of Science degree (MS) and Specialists in School Psychology degree (SSP) from Barry University. During his graduate education, he completed a variety of training experiences including working in the university’s mental health clinic (CARE Center) where he provided counseling services and psychoeducational evaluations to children.

Trained in a variety of counseling styles, Michael completed practicum experience with the Broward County School District and internship experience with Collier County Public Schools. He then completed directed research at Barry University titled ‘Concussion Training: A Need for Teachers and Parents’, which focused on the symptoms of concussion, its impact on learning, and teacher/parent comfortability levels with the identification of concussions and the implementation of strategies.

In both the private and public sector, Michael has worked extensively with school-aged students, helping them to achieve their personal best. He strives to help people learn to feel better, bring awareness to themselves, develop their strength of inner self, and to build lifetime resiliency.

Psychology is the science of behavior and mind. It includes the study of conscious and unconscious phenomena, as well as feeling and thought. It is an academic discipline of immense scope. Psychologists assess, diagnose, and treat the psychological problems and behavioral dysfunctions resulting from, or related to, physical and mental health. In addition, they play a major role in the promotion of healthy behavior, preventing diseases and improving patients’ quality of life.
