  • Can a chiropractor help with a disc hernia?

Cervical and Lumbar Disc Herniations are absolutely a condition Chiropractic care can help with. I personally prefer to use Flexion-Distraction of the lumbar spine to encourage the lumbar discs back into the correct position. McKenzie based exercises are recommended for at home management of disc herniations. In some cases, disc herniation may require surgery (especially if the herniation is greater than 10mm). Consult a chiropractor, receive a good evaluation, and get an MRI is best course of action. Hope this helps. - Dr. Edge, D.C. READ MORE

  • Can disc hernia be healed?

Yes! Disc herniations can take 2mo-6mo to heal based on the extent of injury and previous history of injury. But short answer is yes, disc herniations can be conservatively treated with Chiropractic. READ MORE

  • What is the typical treatment plan for a patient with chronic ankle pain?

Adjustments of the Subtalar (ankle) joint can improve range of motion which will in turn reduce pain in the ankle. When a joint is out of alignment, not in its most efficient position, inflammation begins to develop in and around the joint. Additionally, adjustments of the Cuboid and Navicular bone using an activator will help with chronic ankle pain. Hope this provides some clarity. READ MORE

  • Can I go to the GYM with a disc hernia?

It depends on the exercises being performed and the stage of injury/treatment. For example, in the initial phase of treatments (up to month 1) loading exercises like deadlifts and squats will exacerbate the injury. I would consult a chiropractor or Physical Therapist for evaluation before continuing with exercise. READ MORE

  • What exercise helps with ankle arthritis?

Arthritis of the ankle can benefit from chiropractic adjustments and physical therapy. One exercise you can start at home would be ankle 4-way exercises with a light resistance band. That exercise is available on youtube. If you have any pain during the exercise I would recommend contacting a professional before continuing with exercise. READ MORE

  • Can chiropractic adjustment heal a sports injury?

Chiropractic can help with sports related injuries but the best bet for a quick recovery would be Physical Therapy! • How do you treat chronic neck pain?

I treat chronic neck pain with massage therapy, chiropractic, and acupuncture. I also recommend exercises to start doing at home to engage inhibited muscles and stretches to relax over active muscles. Hope this answers your question! READ MORE

  • Should I go to a chiropractor or a physical therapist for bad posture?

Both are more than capable of helping with your posture. I prefer to couple chiropractic (to align the spine and balance muscle tension) with physical therapy (to strengthen inhibited muscles and stretch overactive muscles). Postural braces and foam rollers are generally a good at home solution! READ MORE

  • When should you stop chiropractic treatment?

I am glad to hear chiropractic got the relief you were looking for! In most cases, when patients are out of pain I recommend biweekly or monthly maintenance visits to decrease the chance of the pain returning. READ MORE

  • Should I heat or ice my neck?

Heat for tight muscles and follow with stretching. Ice for pain after an injury READ MORE

  • Is it normal to be sore after the chiropractor?

Soreness after an adjustment is normal, but your doctor should explain that beforehand to reduce worry on your end! The soreness stems from joints being mobilized that have not been moving optimally and as a result you feel soreness. I often describe the soreness as an equivalent of going to the gym for the first time in awhile. If you haven't worked out your shoulders in a month, they are going to be sore the next day! READ MORE

  • Why do my heels hurt when I stand still?

A common source of heel pain is plantar fasciitis. I would recommend stretching and strengthening your calves and rolling out with a frozen water bottle. Massage therapy or instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization is a great way of quickly treating PF! READ MORE

  • What treatment is the most effective for scoliosis?

Great question. Regular adjustments coupled with physical therapy have gotten great improvements in scoliosis for my patients! READ MORE

  • How can I relieve back pain?

I would recommend seeing a chiropractor to put the vertebrae in the proper alignment, which will reduce muscle tension. For my patients, massage therapy before the adjustments helps to reduce tension and increase the length of time that adjustments will hold for. Core exercises and a regular stretching routine can also help to address low back pain but I would recommend seeing a provider to evaluate your low back and ensure that the exercises/stretches you are doing are going to be beneficial! READ MORE

  • Should you go to the chiropractor for lower back pain?

Yes! Lower back pain is the foundation of a chiropractor's career. Acupuncture can also be a great source of relief for lower back pain. READ MORE

  • Can I see a chiropractor for a disc hernia?

Absolutely! Chiropractic care for disc herniations should always be considered before surgical intervention. READ MORE

  • Can lower back pain be fixed with exercises?

There are a multitude of causes for low back pain, but yes exercises can absolutely help in most cases. I would encourage you to see a qualified provider so they can assess and describe what exercises would be the most beneficial for you! READ MORE

  • What is the treatment for hernia pain?

Flexion-Distraction and massage therapy is my gold standard for treating disc herniations. Treatment plans often follow as: 3x a week until pain has reduced by half, 2x a week until pain has reduced by half again, 1x a week until light exercise without pain, biweekly after no pain with strenuous exercise! READ MORE

  • Pubic bone

I am disappointed to hear you had a poor experience at the chiropractor! Yes, the doctor should have explained prior to the adjustment what would be done and the benefits you could expect to receive after an adjustment. The activator (little gun) is also how I would adjust the pubic bone, but I would explain and obtain consent for the adjustment regardless of male/female, and if you were uncomfortable with me (a male doctor) performing an adjustment I would refer you to my female physical therapist. While our main focus as chiropractors is pain relief, patient comfort should always be at the forefront of any adjustment! READ MORE

  • How soon after disc hernia treatment can I exercise?

Great question! While full return to exercise without restriction depends on the severity and location of the herniation, I encourage my patients to start with very short bouts of exercise (walking 5-10 minutes) and scaling up from there after a week or two of their initial injury. There are more specific exercises to address herniations (Mckenzie techniques) but you would need a qualified provider to evaluate the injury and give you the correct exercises. As far as weight bearing activities, a physical therapist would be a good fit to scale you back into weight lifting. READ MORE

Chiropractic is a form of alternative medicine that mainly deals with the diagnosis and treatment of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine. A chiropractor uses spinal adjustments, manipulation, and other techniques to manage patients’ health concerns, including neck pain, back pain, headaches, vertigo and a long list of other ailments and conditions. They aim to improve patients’ functionality and quality of life by properly aligning the body’s musculoskeletal structure and enabling the body to heal itself naturally, without the use of medication or surgery.

Attributing his success to the time he takes to talk with and understand his patients, Dr. Edge has been named a 2023 Top Chiropractor by America’s Best Doctors.

When he is not working, he loves to enjoy all that Colorado has to offer, but especially snowboarding and hiking. If he is not in the mountains, Dr. Edge is playing in a recreational soccer league or playing board games at home. He is also a collector of rocks and loves to display a few of his favorites around the clinic. He currently lives in the Denver area.
