Get to know Hematologist-Oncologist Dr. Kavya Kannan, who serves patients throughout the State of California.

A triple board certified hematologist-oncologist, Dr. Kannan is deeply inspired hearing the incredible stories of people from all walks of life. She is also honored to be able to help them continue their journey and fulfill their aspirations. 

Passionate about evidence-based medicine, Dr. Kannan loves to educate her patients on their treatment choices and personalize their care after bringing in their values and goals in life to center stage in decision making. 

With a passion to educate not only her own patients, but also patients and health care professionals globally, she created Global Cancer Connect with lots of love and hope. Her patients are her absolute source of inspiration and she dedicates her platform to their tenacity and perseverance. 

Throughout her academic career, Dr. Kannan graduated with her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery Degree from Coimbatore Medical College in India in 2011. She then served as an intern at Madras Medical College, working in various fields of medicine.

Upon relocating to the United States, Dr. Kannan performed her residency in internal medicine and her fellowship in hematology and oncology at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in 2019 and 2022, respectively. 

Board certified in medical oncology, hematology, and internal medicine, she is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Continuously advancing her efforts, Dr. Kannan is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology.

Hematology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study of the cause, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to blood. Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A hematologist-oncologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of blood diseases and cancers such as iron-deficiency anemia, hemophilia, sickle-cell disease, leukemia, and lymphoma.

Attributing her success to the patients who changed her life as she watched them transform to their journey, Dr. Kannan lives vicariously through them and learns life lessons.
