Get to know Physical Therapist Dr. DeShawn Fairbairn, who serves patients in Boston, Massachusetts.
A determined physical therapist, Dr. Fairbairn is affiliated with Lifepoint Health & ATI Physical Therapy, specializing in the assessment, evaluation and treatment of post-heart transplant, COPD, stroke, neuropathy, and post-op orthopedic patients. He also serves as part-time Adjunct Faculty at the Tufts University School of Medicine, focusing on musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary and primary care.
Graduating with his Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University in 2015, he went on to further his training with a Master of Science degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science from the A.T. Still University of Health Sciences in 2020. He received his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the Tufts University School of Medicine in 2022.
Recognized as a Grafton Technique Specialist (GTS) and a USA Weightlifting Coach (USAW), Dr. Fairbairn is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS).
Throughout his career, he engaged in researching Olympic Weightlifting at the Hunan Sports Vocational College, and completed a lifelong dream of becoming a world champion bodybuilder via the WNBF in 2019.
Physical therapy (PT), also known as physiotherapy, is one of the allied health professions that, by using evidence-based kinesiology, electrotherapy, shockwave modality, exercise prescription, joint mobilization and health education, treats conditions such as chronic or acute pain, soft tissue injuries, cartilage damage, arthritis, gait disorders, and physical impairments typically of musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary, neurological, and endocrinological origins. Physical therapy is used to improve a patient’s physical functions through physical examination, diagnosis, prognosis, physical intervention, rehabilitation, and patient education. It is practiced by physical therapists (known as physiotherapists in many countries).
As a testament to his success, Dr. Fairbairn received the Rosen Fellowship Award from Brooklyn College in 2019. He was also the recipient of the Professionalism Award by the Tufts School of Medicine Doctor of Physical Therapy Program in 2022.
