    you can try the 20/20/20 rule at home to see if it helps your eye strain. The rule is after 20 minutes of near work (reading/phone/computer) you should look at an object about 20 feet away for 20 seconds before resuming your near activity. This will help give a little break to some of the muscle inside and outside your eyes that sometimes get strained when doing a lot of looking at thinks up close. READ MORE

    If after 10 days you have not adjusted to your new glasses, I would recommend returning to your eye doctor for a recheck. Sometime with a change in the glasses prescription we do not adapt to it and may need to have a small adjustment made to the prescription. READ MORE

A distinguished member of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Iowa since 1992, Ms. Pfeifer has been recognized for her exceptional contributions to children’s vision health. Serving in multiple roles, her impact has been felt through her expertise as a certified orthoptist and ophthalmic technologist, assessing children’s vision and strabismus, leading grant and proposal writing efforts, and coordinating electrophysiology services that have earned the UI a national reputation in ocular gene therapy and specialized care for children.

In addition, her commitment extends beyond her clinical roles as she actively engages in teaching orthoptic and medical students, residents, and pediatric ophthalmology fellows. Her dedication to education has positioned the University of Iowa as a leading institution for orthoptic training programs in the country. She played a pivotal role in establishing an electrophysiology suite that attracts patients nationwide, showcasing her innovative approach to enhancing pediatric eye care services. Working as a professional consultant with Ocular Electrophysiology Consulting, she has worked nationally and internationally to help others enhance electrophysiology testing in children. 

With a strong academic background, including a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology from Acadia University and a Master of Medical Education from the University of Iowa, Ms. Pfeifer’s commitment to excellence is further exemplified through her multiple board certifications and numerous prestigious awards.
