Get to know Psychiatrist Dr. Gloria M. Kardong, who serves patients in Palo Alto, California. 

With over 30 years of experience in her field, Dr. Kardong is a psychiatrist who is currently serving patients at her private practice in Palo Alto, California. She understands the particular nature of the stresses, demands, and concerns faced by those who are living and working in the area.

Dr. Kardong treats people from all walks of life and with the full spectrum of psychiatric problems. She is available for both onsite and online appointments for those living in the area, as well as virtual consultation throughout the rest of the country. Dr. Kardong is an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University Medical Center. Dr. Kardong has served as an Expert Consultant and Expert Witness for Stanford Law School, Stanford Medical School, the California Medical Board, as well as for private attorneys nationwide.

Dr. Kardong earned her medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, Washington in 1986. She then went on to complete her internship at the San Mateo Medical Center in 1987, followed by her residency at Stanford University Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in 1990, where she served as Chief Resident. Additionally, Dr. Kardong is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (DFAPA).

Dr. Kardong is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (DABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists.

Dr. Kardong has been honored with numerous awards throughout her career, including Adjunct Clinical Faculty Service award, Top Doctors in Silicon Valley award, Patients’ Choice award, and Most Compassionate Doctor award.  

Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to diagnosing, preventing, and treating mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions. Psychiatrists are medical doctors, unlike psychologists, and must evaluate patients to determine whether their symptoms are the result of a physical illness, a combination of physical and mental ailments, or strictly psychiatric. They are qualified to assess both the mental and physical aspects of psychological problems. Dr. Kardong has broad experience using a variety of different treatment modalities. She believes that it is important to offer individualized care based on the patient’s specific problems, concerns, and preferences. Her specialty areas include women’s health and forensic psychiatry.
