Dr. Gloria M. Kardong, MD's Expert Contributions
  • Antidepressants and fibromyalgia

Wellbutrin is a great choice for depression, anxiety, ADHD, and chronic pain. You may need as much as 450mg/day for maximum benefit. They market Cymbalta for this, but it is not superior to the other drugs in this class. Lyrica often targets fibromyalgia directly. Don't forget that the pain-depression cycle feeds on itself, so any way you break the cycle will help, e.g., treating the pain will relieve some of the depression and treating the depression will help the pain, as you discovered from your own experience. Best wishes, Gloria M. Kardong, MD, DFAPA READ MORE

Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to diagnosing, preventing, and treating mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions. Psychiatrists are medical doctors, unlike psychologists, and must evaluate patients to determine whether their symptoms are the result of a physical illness, a combination of physical and mental ailments, or strictly psychiatric. They are qualified to assess both the mental and physical aspects of psychological problems. Dr. Kardong has broad experience using a variety of different treatment modalities. She believes that it is important to offer individualized care based on the patient’s specific problems, concerns, and preferences. Her specialty areas include women’s health and forensic psychiatry.
