Dr. Thakkar is a board-certified and fellowship-trained otolaryngologist in practice with Ear, Nose & Throat Center – The GW Medical Faculty Associates in Washington, D.C.
At The GW Medical Faculty Associates, the ENT doctors evaluate and treat not only basic illnesses of the ear, nose, and throat; but also treat complex illnesses of the skull base and cancers of the head and neck, including thyroid and parathyroid surgery. They provide state-of-the-art medical and surgical management of voice disorders, hearing and balance problems (including hearing aids and cochlear implants), sleep apnea, salivary gland dysfunction, nasal and sinus problems, as well as facial reconstruction and facial cosmetic procedures.
Dedicated to excellence, Dr. Thakkar’s clinical and research interests lie primarily in the treatment of benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck, microvascular free tissue transfer, and transoral robotic surgery (TORS) with an emphasis on preserving functional outcomes. She is affiliated with George Washington University Cancer Center, Doctors Community Hospital, and The George Washington University Hospital.
Alongside her clinical role, she serves as an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
As for her educational background, Dr. Thakkar earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the City University of New York – Brooklyn College. She then went on to obtain her medical degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine. Following a residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, she pursued additional fellowship in head and neck surgical oncology and reconstructive surgery at the University of Pennsylvania.
A Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, she is board-certified in otolaryngology by the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.
