Get to know Interventional Gastroenterologist Dr. Woojin Kim, who serves patients in Pasadena and Los Angeles, California.

Dr. Kim is an interventional gastroenterologist who is affiliated with the Southern California Permanente Medical Group in Pasadena, California. For more than 60 years, the Southern California Permanente Medical Group has practiced ethical, evidence-based medicine — keeping patients at the center, while also delivering high-quality care with compassion and heart. Dr. Kim received his medical degree from the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. He then went on to complete his residency in general surgery at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, followed by his residency in internal medicine at the Boston University Medical Center. He also completed his fellowship training in gastroenterology at the UCLA Medical Center.

Dr. Kim is board-certified in both internal medicine and gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. Diseases affecting the gastrointestinal tract, which include the organs from mouth into anus, along the alimentary canal, are the focus of this speciality. Interventional gastroenterologists, like Dr. Kim, typically review a patient’s symptoms, history, blood tests and existing imaging records to come up with an opinion and treatment plan, which often includes using special endoscopic procedures.
