Get to know Podiatrist Dr. J. Timothy Harlan, who serves patients in Phoenix, Arizona.

An exceptional podiatrist, Dr. Harlan is the Founder and Medical Director of Phoenix Foot & Ankle, opening the practice in 1996. He specializes in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, trauma and sports injuries.

Their practice is dedicated to providing quality foot and ankle care to all ages of patients. They believe that prompt diagnosis, early intervention and prevention are essential for the care and treatment of the feet. They provide a full range of podiatric medical care including both conservative and surgical therapies.

Educated in the United States, Dr. Harlan received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from the University of San Diego. While there he played inter-collegiate football, earning a starting position his freshmen year. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Pharmacology from the University of Arizona. He is a graduate of the California College of Podiatric Medicine and completed his surgical residency at Kaiser Hospital as Chief Resident.

Distinguished as a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgery (FACFAS), the doctor attained board certification in foot and ankle surgery and rear foot and ankle reconstructive surgery through the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery, which strives to protect and improve the health and welfare of the public by advancing the art and science of foot and ankle surgery.

Professionally, he is an active member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and the Arizona Podiatric Medical Association.

Active in academia, Dr. Harlan serves as Adjunct Professor at the Podiatry School at Midwestern University, a Clinical Attending Physician at Maricopa Medical Center, and a Faculty Physician at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. In addition, he remains committed to veterans and works as a part-time Attending Physician at the Carl T. Hayden Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Podiatry is a branch of medicine devoted to the study, diagnosis, and medical and surgical treatment of a variety of disorders of the foot, ankle, and lower extremity. A podiatrist, also known as a podiatric physician or a foot and ankle surgeon, is a medical professional devoted to the treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle, and lower extremity. They can treat injuries and complications from ongoing health issues like diabetes.

As a testament to his success,Dr. Harlan has been recognized as a Top Doctor in Phoenix Magazine 16 times (2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020). He was the top vote getter in 2009 and 2011.

On a more personal note, he spends his free time in activities involving his two boys and his wife. He has a passion for mountain biking, one that he has passed on to both of his boys. The family spends as much time as they can on the slopes in the winter, both skiing and snowboarding. He also enjoys traveling with his family, whether it is to a faraway destination or discovering a National Park. One of their family goals is to explore a different National Park each summer. Having lived in Arizona since 1972, his favorite National Park is the Grand Canyon.
