Get to know Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr. Rene I. Luna, who serves patients in McAllen, Texas.

A board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist, Dr. Luna is a highly skilled physician and surgeon specializing in minimally invasive robotic surgery, specifically da Vinci single-site surgery. He is dedicated to providing the most advanced quality healthcare to the women of the Rio Grande Valley as the Medical Director of Rio Grande Women’s Clinic in McAllen, Texas.

“I feel honored and privileged to care for the women of this community. I believe in the importance of the doctor-patient relationship. Communication is the key to success. I am empathetic to my patient’s medical needs and work to support my patients present and future health concerns” expressed the doctor.

In regards to his educational background, he graduated from The University of Texas Pan-American in Edinburg, Texas and received his medical training from both the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara and New York Medical College. He completed his residency in obstetrics & gynecology and women’s health at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine / Montefiore Medical Center in New York.

Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Luna joined Plaza OB/GYN Associates at the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas. In August of 2015, he moved to McAllen and is now serving the Rio Grande Valley community. His extensive and cutting edge training and medical career in New York and Houston providing exceptional medical care to diverse communities has made him an asset to the Rio Grande Valley.

With years of experience, he is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The mission of the ABOG is to define specialty standards, certify obstetricians and gynecologists, and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health.

Distinguished as a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG), Dr. Luna is an active member of the American Medical Association, the Hidalgo-Starr County Medical Society, the Texas Institute for Robotic Surgery, and the Texas Medical Association.

In the state of Texas, he is affiliated with Rio Grande Regional Hospital and Doctors Hospital at Renaissance.

Obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics (covering pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period) and gynecology (covering the health of the female reproductive system – vagina, uterus, ovaries, and breasts).
