Get to know Family Physician Dr. Sevastiani Petridou, who cared for patients throughout the State of California.

Dr. Sevastiani Petridou, or ‘Tula’ as she was known by all who loved her, passed away on 1/17/2022 after losing her battle with cancer. Her husband of 17 years, Robert “Bobby” Cutright, was by her side.

Having lovingly cared for patients as a family physician throughout her medical career, she worked at MVA Fairmont Clinic, Fairmont Regional Hospital, Mon General Hospital, Sutter Davis, and Sutter Sacramento Hospital in California. She also served with Doctors Without Borders in Ghana, Africa.

Born in Kavala, Greece on 1/1/1958, Dr. Tula moved to the United States from Greece to attend Syracuse University and then Cornell University, completing a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Biophysics. Her love of knowledge would lead her to teach as well as complete medical school at Saba University School of Medicine in the Netherlands Antilles. She then completed her residency in family medicine at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, where she met Bobby, the love of her life.

The other important love in her life, who meant the most to her, was her stepson, Kyle Cutright, to whom she was a loving mother, a mentor, and a great supporter. She encouraged him to follow an educational path that would lead them all to California.

Board-certified in family medicine, Dr. Tula was a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). The ABFM is a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice in family medicine and its sub-specialties.

Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician is often the first person a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility.

Having lived a life filled with adventure, education and travel, Tula’s family delighted in her exceptional cooking skills and immensely enjoyed traveling with her throughout Europe, the Caribbean, and Mexico.

In Greece, Tula was preceded in death by her father, Giannis Petridis. She is survived by her mother, Maria Petridou of Kavala; her sister, Chara Petridou of Thessaloniki; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Scott and Denise Swiger of Fairmont; and two nephews, Zachary and his wife Darlena Swiger and Isaac Swiger, all of Fairmont, West Virginia.

Bringing joy to everyone who knew her – family, friends, and patients – Tula leaves behind a legacy of compassion and strength.
