Get to know Anesthesiologist Dr. Sherine F. Hanna, who serves patients throughout the State of Illinois.

A trusted anesthesiologist, Dr. Hanna is affiliated with OSF Healthcare – Anesthesiology, serving patients at the Saint Elizabeth Medical Center, Saint James – John W. Albrecht Medical Center, and Saint Paul Medical Center.

Back in the early days of her academic career, she earned her medical degree from the Rush University Medical College in 1992. She then went on to complete her internship at Weiss Memorial Hospital in 1993, and her residency in anesthesiology at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1996.

In pursuit of clinical excellence, the doctor is board-certified in anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). As the certifying body for anesthesiologists since 1938, the ABA is committed to partnering with physicians to advance lifelong learning and exceptional patient care. Its mission is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology.

Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during, and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine. Anesthesiologists have the primary responsibility of monitoring the patient’s vital signs during surgery. In addition to basic measurements such as pulse, blood pressure, and temperature, they measure the patient’s respiration.

As a testament to her success, Dr. Hanna has been the recipient of the Patient’s Choice Award in 2013 and 2014.

Speaking several languages, she is fluent in English, Arabic, and Spanish.
