Dr. Hesse, a knowledgeable orthopedic surgeon, is the Founder of Sylvia Hesse MD Non-Surgical Orthopedics in New York, New York. She strongly believes in a holistic, multi-disciplinary approach to providing medical care to her patients and utilizes non-surgical orthopedics as a primary approach to healing. 

Providing comprehensive evaluations and treatments for acute and chronic spinal conditions, sports injuries in juveniles and adults, degenerative and inflammatory joint conditions, Dr. Hesse also treats general musculoskeletal disorders for adult, pediatric, and geriatric patients. She finds that both better and more lasting positive outcomes to care can be obtained by mindfully considering each patient’s unique functional and psychosocial requirements when outlining their treatment plans. She recognizes when a patient’s condition requires surgical management, and will facilitate the appropriate surgical consultations as indicated.

To assist her patients in achieving optimal wellness, Dr. Hesse also works with internists, alternative therapy practitioners, and psychologists. She is privileged to endorse Salonpas®, topical OTC analgesic and anti-inflammatory products.

Before embarking on her professional journey, she graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Cum Laude, from the University of California, San Diego in 1993. She minored dually in psychology and dance. Following that, she received her medical degree from the Creighton University School of Medicine in 1997. 

Years later, in 2002, Dr. Hesse went on to complete her residency in orthopedic surgery at Fort Worth Affiliated Hospitals. Then, in 2003, she received the Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery Fellowship at Shriners Hospital for Children in Portland, Oregon.

From 2003 until 2005, she began her career working at pediatric orthopedic surgery practice in Miami, Florida. Following her experience there, she became a non-surgical orthopedist at a multidisciplinary musculoskeletal practice in New York from 2006 until 2014, after which she went into private practice. 

Recognized as an expert in her field, Dr. Hesse is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). To ensure safe, ethical, and effective practice of orthopedic surgery, the ABOS maintains the highest standards for education, practice, and conduct through examination, certification, and maintenance of certification for the benefit of the public.

Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.
