Get to know Pain Management Specialist Dr. Vincent J. Valdez, who serves patients throughout the State of California.

Well-versed in the fields of pain medicine and anesthesiology, Dr. Valdez practices at Atlas Pain Management with offices in Downey, Long Beach, and Whittier, California. His mission is to help improve the function and quality of life of those suffering from pain.

As a dedicated community member, Dr. Valdez strives to serve and uplift his community while improvising his patients’ lives. He does so by applying his extensive expertise in acute and chronic pain management, prioritizing continuous training in the latest pain management procedures. 

Locally, the doctor is affiliated with PIH Health Downey Hospital, Torrance Surgery Center, and Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance.

In regards to his educational background, Dr. Valdez received his Medical Degree from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and performed his residency in anesthesiology at the University of Southern California, where he completed his fellowship training in pediatric anesthesiology. He continued to practice at USC as the director of pain management from 1987 to 1994 and directed its anesthesiology residency training program from 1992 to 1994. Dr. Valdez was an assistant and associate professor of both anesthesiology and orthopedic surgery at USC as well.

Board certified in both pain medicine and anesthesiology, he is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). As the certifying body for anesthesiologists since 1938, the ABA is committed to partnering with physicians to advance lifelong learning and exceptional patient care. Its mission is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology.

On a professional level, Dr. Valdez is a member of various pain societies, including the Interventional Pain Management (both nationally and in California), the American Society of Regional Anesthesia, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Medical Association, and the California Medical Association.

Additionally, he is a qualified medical examiner and is on the National Board of Medical Examiners.

Pain management is a branch of medicine employing an interdisciplinary approach for easing the suffering and improving the quality of life of those living with chronic pain. A pain management specialist is a doctor who specializes in pain medicine, focusing on the evaluation, treatment, and prevention of pain.

As a published author, Dr. Valdez has been able to share his knowledge of mild and severe chronic pain with patients and physicians. He has given lectures on topics such as low back pain, interventional diagnostics for low back pain, chronic pain management, pain management in the elderly, and acute pain management.
