Dr Espinet’s career in medicine began in 1987 when he graduated with his MD Degree and Diploma in Anesthesiology from the University of the West Indies. After graduating, Dr. Espinet completed extensive post-graduate training in Edinburgh Scotland, England UK, Europe, Texas USA, and Australia, before entering into private practice in Queensland, Australia. Dr. Espinet is dual board certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Management and is a specialist in back and neck pain, cancer pain, complex regional pain syndrome and the use of spinal cord stimulators for pain management. He has earned the coveted title of Fellow of the Royal College of Anesthesiology, and Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine of Australia and New Zealand. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Espinet is a senior lecturer at the Griffith University School of Medicine and an Assistant Professor at Bond University. Dr. Espinet has conducted 3 international multicenter clinical trials in pain management and is the lead investigator for an ongoing clinical trial on the use of etanercept in Alzheimer’s disease. He has published over 20 papers and abstracts in scientific journals and attributes his success to a combination of hard work and technical knowledge. Dr. Espinet lectures extensively all over the world to many scientific and medical audiences and when he is not assisting patients, he enjoys spending time with his family. Anesthesiology is the practice of medicine dedicated to the relief of pain and total care of the surgical patient before, during and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine and pain medicine. A pain management specialist evaluates, diagnoses, and treats all different types of pain. Pain is a wide spectrum of disorders including acute pain, chronic pain and cancer pain and sometimes a combination of these. Pain can also arise for many different reasons such as surgery, injury, nerve damage, and metabolic problems such as diabetes. Occasionally, pain can even be the problem all by itself, without any obvious cause at all.
