Victoria D. Milau
Psychiatrist | Psychiatry
103 St Mark\'s Place NY New York, 10009About
Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
Completed psychiatric training at the Mount Sinai Hospital in NYC in 1996
During her training there, she served as Chief Resident in Outpatient Psychiatry and was instrumental in forging an alliance between the General Psychiatry Outpatient Clinics and the Consultation-Liason Service set up through the Jack Martin Clinic serving HIV pts with mental illness. After completing her residency, she received the prestigious David Kairys Memorial Award for Clinical Excellence in Medicine, an award given out to one resident per year.
Following residency, she trained at Columbia University, where she was a fellow in the Public Psychiatry program. This unique fellowship was the the only one of its kind to deal with the homeless populations who were also beset with mental challenges. After her fellowship, she continued to work with the non-profit organization FEGS and served homeless populations in housing facilities in the Bronx and Manhattan for over six years. Also during that time, Dr. Milau set up her private practice in Adult General Psychiatry, and has since been practicing on the upper east side of Manhattan for the last 15 years.
In addition to her background in standard clinical Western medicine, she has an ongoing interest in alternative medical therapies. During her fellowship, she trained as well at NYSEPH, the New York Society for Ericksonian Hypnotherapy, completing their certified program. She has since been successfully incorporating this unique form of hypnotherapy into her private practice since 2001.
Further alternative studies that she completed were in Reiki, a centuries old form of energy healing that can complement traditional Western medicine or be used alone. Extensive training over the last seven years in the widely acclaimed Emotional Freedom Technique has helped a large number of patients achieve relief from a variety of problems, often without the use of any medication.
Her long-standing interest in Color Healing therapies pre-dates her medical school days, and she has studied many approaches to this form of healing over the years, using many of the techniques pioneered by masters in the field, such as Peter Mandel and Fabien Maman.
***It should be noted that although all of these alternative/complementary forms of healing are important and useful, they are not meant to substitute for adequate medical care. They are also not meant to diagnose any specific disease. Persons with serious medical conditions must consult their personal physicians and each case is treated only in the context of the person’s entire situation of care.

What do you attribute your success to?
Dr. Milau feels that having had a liberal-arts education before her medical school education has given her a very broad viewpoint, enabling her to adapt to the particular needs of her patients. Having come from a somewhat unusual background where she had to make her own way and took care of all of her formal education herself, including medical school, Dr. Milau is particularly sensitive to the needs and struggles of women in today's world. Having come through a variety of experiences herself, Dr. Milau is more than happy to help others succeed.
Areas of research
Dr. Milau completed a year-long fellowship at the New York State Psychiatic Institute while simultaneously serving three outreach sites for the non-profit organization FEGS which provides rehabilitation to the homeless. This fellowship, serving the needs of the mentally ill coming through the shelter system is the only one of its kind. After completion, Dr. Milau went on to serve as on-staff psychiatrist to all three of the facilities she served during the fellowship. In 2006, she served as a voluntary staff psychiatrist for homeless men living at the New York Rescue Mission.
Dr. Milau continued her post graduate studies at the New York State Milton H. Erickson Society for Psychotherapy and Hypnosis, becoming a state-licensed hypnotherapist. Her final paper "A Work in Progress-An Interesting Case Using Eriksonian Hypnotherapy" was awarded their highest honor in May 2002.
Dr. Milau has had an on-going interest in chromotherapy for over 10 years, and has successfully employed the use of colored gel filters, which when shone on the body, can alleviate both physical and emotional symptoms. In addition, she has educated patients on the use of colored glasses that can be worn on a daily basis as an adjunct to other therapies, sometimes allowing patients to reduce or eliminate medication. Dr. Milau is also trained in the use of cold laser therapy, and is currently employing violet light for the reduction of trauma., an area which has been the subject of much research of late.
Philanthropic Initiatives
Dr. Milau has had a life-long passion for the outdoors, and loves trees, flowers and all of Nature. She is quite concerned with the very real health concerns being created by toxins and pesticides, and incorporates up-to-date information on nutrition and environmental issues for all her patients. She is a supporting member of Environment New York, which is currently involved in saving our dwindling bee populations.
Teaching and speaking
Dr. Milau has an on-going interest in Energy Medicine-ie. techniques that involve the patient's own vibrational field. Such techniques can involve breathwork, tapping on specific acupuncture points on the body, visualization. She teaches these modalities in classes and seminars frequently throughout the year. She is currently offering workshops in Meridian Tapping at the Satori Wellness Center in NYC.
