My Diagnosis Story
What symptoms led up to your diagnosis?
By accident lifted a person up to stand. Later within hours, I had male area pain. It started with urine problems, discomfort, burning, and the stream of urine flow is not good.
What tests did your doctor do, and what was this experience like?
I saw a urology specialty. I thought I had a hernia from picking a person up off the couch to help them stand. I immediately felt pain in my male area. The tests and procedures are a CAT scan of the abdomen, pelvic, MRI prostate, biopsies of the prostate, bone scan of the whole body, CAT scan of the lungs, port/cath insertion for chemotherapy. Also, blood tests for research. The experience was difficult with not really knowing the outcome and shock of it all.
Upon learning about your diagnosis, what happened next?
I had shock at the fact that is rare and aggressive, stage 4 prostate cancer. I'm wondering as many colonoscopies as I've had up until 1yr of diagnoses, how could a doctor not see an enlarged prostate and refer to a urology doctor. I have anger, denial, depression, and crying. An eventual appt with an oncology doctor suggests port and schedule chemo ASAP. It started to become my reality. I'm now having weakness and chemotherapy but it hasn't started. I'm trying to figure out how this could happen because I did my part going for medical care needs.
