Yes, typically it is best to crown a tooth after a root canal.
Except in some front teeth, crowns are highly recommended. Compare teeth to a tree branch. Live on the tree, it is flexible. Dead off the tree if subject to stress will crack and shatter.
Crown definitely needed after root canal treatment if you use the tooth for chewing especially in the posterior area.
While it is not always the case, it is recommended, to get a crown after a root canal. The tooth can be more brittle after root canal therapy, and alot of tooth structure is usually gone.
