Dr. Hazem Kanaan a dedicated obstetrician-gynecologist and board certified obesity specialist, has been at the forefront of promoting women’s health and empowering weight loss transformations in the Rio Grande Valley community. Since the establishment of his clinic, All Women Medical Clinic, in October 2017, he has been committed to providing comprehensive and compassionate care to female patients of all ages, from adolescence to menopause.
Dr. Kanaan’s expertise includes offering a range of services such as normal deliveries, cesarean sections, and vaginal birth after C-section (VBAC) exclusively at Women’s Hospital at DHR. A strong advocate for minimal invasive surgery, he also specializes in robotic surgeries and other minimally invasive procedures to ensure faster patient recovery and healing.
Recognizing the need for lifestyle reform and effective weight management strategies in the community, Dr. Kanaan expanded his practice to establish RGV Medical Weight Loss. Through this initiative, he focuses on addressing weight-related issues and promoting healthier lifestyles for individuals struggling with obesity.
With a distinguished background in health care and women’s services, Dr. Kanaan serves as a community teaching faculty for the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and is a former Clinical Associate Professor at the same institution.
Born and raised in Damascus, Syria, Dr. Kanaan moved to the United States in 1999. He attended college and completed his Undergraduate Degree in Biochemistry at Kennesaw State University in Georgia, where he graduated with Cum-Laude Honors in 2005. He then was accepted at the West Virginia Osteopathic School of Medicine, earning his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree in 2009. His dedication to women’s health and reproductive care led him to complete his OB/GYN training at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, by 2013.
Going above and beyond to expand his knowledge and skills, Dr. Kanaan pursued a fellowship in obesity and metabolic disease management, allowing him to provide comprehensive care not only to women but also to men and pediatric patients struggling with obesity. His commitment to clinical excellence is reflected in his board certifications in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Osteopathic Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, as well as in obesity medicine by the American Board of Obesity Medicine.
Dr. Kanaan’s dedication to advancing patient care has earned him accolades such as the Teaching Resident of the Year Award, three times during his four-year residency training, and the Award for Surgical Excellence in Robotic Surgery.
Beyond his medical practice, Dr. Kanaan actively engages in politics, having been involved in various campaigns. He recognizes the importance of influencing legislative processes to create positive change on a larger scale.
