Get to know Psychiatrist Dr. Nilesh S. Tannu, who serves patients in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Tannu is a trusted psychiatrist who sees patients at UT Physicians Multispecialty – Greens in Houston, Texas. His clinical interests include depression and anxiety, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and dual diagnosis (psychiatric disorder with addiction).

A part of UT Health, UT Physicians Multispecialty – Greens provides comprehensive psychiatric outpatient services to children, adolescents, and adults to assess psychological and physical concerns. The medical professionals will work with patients to set goals, develop a customized plan based on their needs, and monitor progress.

Strongly committed to mental health care, Dr. Tannu educates and helps patients achieve optimal functioning at work and socially. He serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth.

After earning his medical degree from B. J. Medical College in India in 1998, Dr. Tannu relocated to the United States to further his training. He served his residency in psychiatry at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth in 2015 and his research fellowship in addiction psychiatry at Wake Forest School of Medicine. 

As a testament to his success, the doctor is board-certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists. 

A member of the Texas Medical Association and the American Psychiatric Association, Dr. Tannu is also an active member of the Editorial Board for BMC Genomics, and a Manuscript Reviewer for several international scientific journals, including Neuropsychopharmacology. He has an interest in dual diagnosis (psychiatric disorder with addiction), having won awards from the Society of Biological Psychiatry, the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, and the American Psychiatric Institute for Research and Education.

Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions. Psychiatrists evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. They conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, develop treatment plans, prescribe medication, and evaluate treatment results.

In his spare time, Dr. Tannu enjoys sports and spending time with his wife and son.
