Get to know Gastroenterologist Dr. Etan B. Spira, who serves patients throughout the State of New Jersey.

A board-certified gastroenterologist, Dr. Spira is affiliated with Essex-Hudson Gastroenterology, joining the practice in 2014. He can also be found on staff at Clara Maass Medical Center, Jersey City Medical Center, and Saint Michael’s Medical Center.

Essex-Hudson Gastroenterology strives to offer their patients convenient, high-quality care. Their doctors specialize in preventing, diagnosing and treating digestive tract, liver and biliary disorders. These mainly include conditions involving the pancreas, liver, gallbladder, esophagus, stomach, small intestine and colon. With offices in Belleville, Newark, and Jersey City, they are committed to providing quality healthcare to the residents of the communities they serve.

Academically, Dr. Spira graduated summa cum laude from The University of Pennsylvania and received his medical degree from New York University.  He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at New York University where he subsequently spent a year as a Hospitalist Scholar. Finally, he completed his fellowship in gastroenterology at the Montefiore Medical Center – Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

In pursuit of clinical excellence, the doctor is board-certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
