Dr Maeve E. O’Connor is the Founder and Medical Director of Allergy Asthma & Immunology Relief, PA and the Allergy Asthma & Immunology Research Institiute, PA in Charlotte, NC. She serves as President of the Consortium of Independent Immunology Clinics, the only organization of its kind providing cutting-edge therapy to patients with primary immune deficiency and immune dysregulation disorders around the USA. Dr. O’Connor is a Fellow of the American College of Asthma, Allergy, and Immunology (ACAAI), where she has twice served on the Board of Regents and as Secretary of the House of Delegates. She is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ABAI), and Fellowship trained in Integrative Medicine.
Dr O’Connor is currently involved in clinical research on asthma, allergic rhinitis, food allergy, atopic dermatitis, desensitisation immunotherapy, immune deficiency, postinfectious autoimmune encephalitis and novel treatment for atopic diseases. She has published numerous research articles on related subjects and is a locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally sought after lecturer. She provides a progressive approach for treating allergy, asthma, and immunology patients, and has been one of Charlotte Magazine’s ’Top Doctors’ for both Adult and Paediatric Allergy/Immunology, America’s Top Doctors, America’s 50 Most Influential Women in Charlotte and Leading Physicians in the World annually since 2013.

Get to know Allergist-Immunologist Dr. Maeve E. O’Connor, who serves patients in Charlotte, North Carolina.
An experienced allergist-immunologist, Dr. O’Connor is the Founder of Allergy Asthma & Immunology Relief of Charlotte. Treating all ages, she provides a more progressive approach for treating allergy, asthma, and immunology patients.
Allergy Asthma & Immunology Relief of Charlotte offers premier care from allergists who diagnose and treat a wide range of different conditions. They are dedicated to working with patients in conjunction with their primary care physician to provide innovative, integrative, individualized, and cost-effective treatments.
With a broad educational background, Dr. O’Connor graduated with her Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of South Carolina. She then went on to earn her medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.
Furthering her training, she performed her internship and residency at the University of Texas and affiliated hospitals, serving as Chief Medical Resident. She also completed allergy and immunology fellowship training at the National Jewish Medical and Research Center, and a fellowship in integrative medicine at the University of Arizona (being one of three specialists to have completed this fellowship).
With a commitment to excellence, the doctor is board-certified by both the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Allergy and Immunology.
Maintaining fellowship status, Dr. O’Connor is a Fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (FAAAAI) and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP). She is also a Fellow of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (FACAAI), where she currently serves on the Board of Regents, and as Secretary of the House of Delegates.
The only board-certified allergist in the region offering sublingual immunotherapy, Dr. O’Connor is also performing clinical research. She has published research articles on desensitization immunotherapy, asthma, and food allergy. She is currently involved in clinical research of asthma, allergic rhinitis, immune deficiency, and novel treatment for atopic diseases.
To date, she lectures extensively on all subjects involving allergy/immunology locally, nationally, and internationally.
Among her philanthropic endeavors, Dr. O’Connor performs volunteer Annual Asthma Screening events to help identify those patients in the community who may have untreated asthma. She also participates in Physicians Reach Out, a nonprofit outreach program that provides free primary and specialty medical visits to eligible uninsured residents in Mecklenburg County.
The field of allergy and immunology encompasses the management of disorders relating to the immune system. These conditions range from the very common to the very rare, spanning all ages and encompassing various organ systems. An allergist-immunologist is a physician specially trained to diagnose, treat, and manage allergies, asthma, and immunologic disorders, including primary immunodeficiency disorders.
Since 2007, Dr. O’Connor has been one of Charlotte Magazine’s “Top Doctors” for both Adult Allergy/Immunology and Pediatric Allergy/Immunology. She is also listed in North Carolina’s Best Doctors, and has been selected by her peers to be included in the Best Doctors of America database from 2011 to present day.
Originally from South Carolina, Dr. O’Connor and her husband enjoy traveling, cooking, decorating, throwing dinner parties with close friends, and volunteering in the Charlotte community. They have one son.
On a more personal note, she is fluent in both English and Spanish.
