Treating children as if they were his own, Dr. Acosta is a pediatric general surgeon with Banner Children’s Specialists in Glendale, Arizona. He is also affiliated with several hospitals that are a part of the Banner Health network, including Banner University Medical Center Phoenix, Banner Desert Medical Center, and Banner Thunderbird Medical Center.

Back in 1997, Dr. Acosta obtained his medical degree from the University of California Davis Medical Center. He then went on to complete his residency in general surgery at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, followed by his fellowship in pediatric surgery at Children’s Medical Center Dallas. 

A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP), he is board-certified in general surgery and pediatric surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge. 

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. Pediatric surgeons are primarily concerned with the diagnosis, preoperative, operative, and postoperative management of surgical problems in children. Dr. Acosta also specializes in Robotic surgery and Pectus deformities. He is an assistant professor of Surgery at the University of Arizona. 

Outside of practicing medicine, Dr. Acosta enjoys going on medical missions and spending time with his family. He speaks English and Spanish.
