Get to know Infectious Disease Specialist, Dr. Frank Rhame, who serves patients in Minneapolis, Minnesota. 

Specializing in travel medicine, Dr. Rhame is a fellowship-trained infectious disease specialist at Allina Health Uptown Clinic in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His professional interests include HIV infections, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, transgender care, post-adolescent gender affirming hormones, pre-exposure HIV prophylaxis, infectious diseases research, inpatient and outpatient infectious disease, LGBTQ health, and virtual visits.

As for his academic appointments, he serves as an Adjunct Professor of the Infectious Diseases Section within the Department of Medicine at the University of Minnesota Medical School, and as an Adjunct Associate Professor within the Division of Epidemiology and Community Health at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health.

With a broad educational background, Dr. Rhame graduated with his medical degree from Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1968. He then went on to perform his internship at Harlem Hospital Center, followed by his residency and fellowship in infectious disease at Stanford University Hospital. 

With nearly five decades of experience, he is board-certified in internal medicine and infectious disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

When HIV arose, Dr. Rhame returned to his first love: virology. Since then, his clinical, research, and educational focus has been on HIV, hepatitis C, influenza, Zika virus, and respiratory syncytial virus. He treats general infectious diseases in the clinic and inpatient consultation at Abbott Northwestern Hospital.

During 2018, he received payments from Gilead Sciences ($19,940), ViiV Healthcare ($10,760), Simply Speaking ($3,150), and the University of Minnesota ($850) for attending four speaker training meetings, attending three webinars, participating in three advisory boards, and delivering nine lectures.
