Get to know Rheumatologist Dr. Timothy J. Gensler, who serves patients in Colorado.
Dr. Gensler is a board-certified rheumatologist at Denver Arthritis Clinic, seeing patients out of the offices in Denver (Lowry) and Lone Tree, Colorado.
“Arthritic and autoimmune conditions are serious medical problems that require careful monitoring and management to maintain a good quality of life for the patient and to minimize the chance of disability. Whenever possible, I use the most current medical studies to guide the management of the patient’s condition. However, I also feel that it is critical to understand the patient’s perspective on his or her problem and seek his or her input when developing the treatment plan. I believe that this team-oriented approach makes it possible to achieve the best possible outcome for the patient” expressed the doctor.
Alongside his clinical role, he serves as an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Colorado-Denver where he enjoys educating the next generation of rheumatologists.
A 1993 graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Dr. Gensler went on to perform his internship and residency at the same educational venue in 1994 and 1996, respectively. He then pursued a fellowship in rheumatology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, completing his training in 1999.
A year prior, in 1998, he attained board certification in rheumatology through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Rheumatology is a branch of medicine devoted to the diagnosis and therapy of rheumatic diseases. Physicians who have undergone formal training in rheumatology are called rheumatologists. Rheumatologists treat arthritis, autoimmune diseases, pain disorders affecting joints, and osteoporosis. There are more than 200 types of these diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, lupus, back pain, osteoporosis, and tendinitis.
Happily married, Dr. Gensler and his wife have two children. His outside interests include spending time with his family, snowboarding, as well as training and competing in triathlons.
