Get to know Neonatologist Dr. Alice O. Valencia-Castillo, who serves patients in Manassas, Virginia.

Recognized as a caring and compassionate neonatologist, Dr. Valencia-Castillo sees patients at UVA Health Prince William Medical Center, located in Manassas, Virginia.

In regards to her educational background, she received her medical degree from the University of the East College of Medicine in the Philippines in 1988. Upon relocating to the United States, she completed her residency in pediatrics and her fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at the Westchester Medical Center in 1996 and 1999, respectively.

Subsequent to her education, the doctor attained board certification in neonatal-perinatal medicine and pediatrics through the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). The mission of the ABP is to advance child health by certifying pediatricians who meet standards of excellence and are committed to continuous learning and improvement.

Neonatology is a subspecialty of pediatrics that consists of the medical care of newborn infants, especially ill or premature newborns. It is a hospital-based specialty and is usually practiced in neonatal intensive care units. Neonatologists generally diagnose and treat newborns with conditions such as breathing disorders, infections, and birth defects, as well as coordinating care and medically managing newborns born prematurely, critically ill, or in need of surgery.

On a more personal note, Dr. Valencia-Castillo is fluent in both English and Filipino.
