Dr. Mallis Jr. is a skilled general surgeon at Memorial Healthcare System in Hollywood, Florida. He has served the South Florida community for more than 23 years, providing surgical treatment for hernias, gallbladder concerns and other medical conditions. He also specializes in laparoscopic procedures.

“My grandfather inspired me to become a surgeon. He was a tailor and a talented handyman. As a young boy, I enjoyed sitting with him and learning to sew or assisting with one of his many projects. One day, he commented that surgeons have a unique ability to fix and solve problems in the human body. It piqued my interest and led me to exploring a career in medicine and specializing in surgery” expressed the doctor.

Pertaining to his educational background, Dr. Mallis Jr. earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1997, and completed his residency in general surgery at the same educational venue in 2000. Finally, he completed his fellowship in osteopathic surgery at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey in 2002.

An authority in his field, the doctor is board-certified in general surgery by the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery, which is an organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine who specialize in the use of surgery to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

As a surgeon, he has the ability to address debilitating problems that are interfering with his patients’ lives. And with the field of medicine constantly changing, he is presented with new challenges and opportunities to make a difference for someone in need.

Among his other roles, Dr. Mallis Jr. can be found on staff at Memorial Hospital Miramar, Memorial Hospital Pembroke, Memorial Hospital West, and Memorial Regional Hospital. He also holds various hospital leadership positions where he helps to ensure that the health system continues to meet the needs of those they serve.

Involved in teaching the next generation of physicians and surgeons, he has taught laparoscopic surgery to medical residents, and is an AssociateProfessor of Surgery at Nova Southeastern University.

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. A general surgeon performs a wide range of abdominal surgeries for many forms of intestinal and abdominal wall neoplasms, gallbladder disease, gastric and pancreatic disease. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery all the way to outpatient care.

Recognized as the Surgical Intern of the Year during his training, Dr. Mallis Jr. has been the recipient of the Galen S. Young Sr. Award for Excellence in Surgery.
