Get to know Ophthalmologist Dr. Stephen Jay Zuckerman, who serves patients throughout the State of Connecticut.

Specializing in cataract surgery, LASIK, TransPRK, and corneal transplantation techniques, Dr. Zuckerman is one of the country’s top-ranked ophthalmologists. He has been a partner at Connecticut Eye Consultants, P.C. since 1994, and sees patients at the offices in Danbury and New Milford, Connecticut.

Connecticut Eye Consultants, P.C. consists of a team of specialized ophthalmologists and optometrists who make eye health their #1 priority. They are dedicated to offering patients comprehensive eye care with state-of-the-art techniques. Whether a patient is in need of a routine eye exam or a highly specialized diagnosis and treatment for a particular condition, they ensure that every patient receives the highest level of care.

A specialist in corneal disease, Dr. Zukerman also serves as the Co-Medical Director of the Precision LASIK Group in Cheshire, Connecticut, where he performs LASIK and TransPRK.  He was one of the first doctors in the country to use the Excimer Laser; having worked with this exciting new technology beginning in 1993. At that time, the laser was considered investigational in the United States but ten academic medical centers were allowed to offer this surgery. Dr. Zuckerman spent a full year treating laser vision patients and providing data to the FDA so that it could be approved for general use.

Back in 1989, he earned his medical degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, New York, where he was awarded the Dr. Alan F. Guttmacher Prize and the George James Award. He then went on to complete his internship in internal medicine at Staten Island University Hospital in 1990, followed by his residency in ophthalmology at Boston University Medical Center in 1993. A year later, he completed his fellowship in cornea and external disease/laser vision correction at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the doctor is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology, an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.

Among his professional affiliations, he is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Fairfield County Medical Society, the Danbury Medical Society, the Connecticut State Medical Society, and the Connecticut Society of Eye Physicians.

A world-renowned authority in his field, Dr. Zuckerman combines years of experience in state-of-the-art vision correction techniques, including LASIK, PRK- Laser Vision Correction, Radial Keratotomy, SunRise LTK – Laser Thermal Keratoplasty, and Astigmatic Keratotomy. He has trained many surgeons in these techniques and lectures nationally and internationally in this area. He has also been published in the ophthalmic and medical literature.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.

On a more personal note, Dr. Zuckerman resides in Redding, Connecticut with his family.
