About
As his mother tells it, Dr. Brandon Hedgecock’s passion for dentistry began when he was barely 3 years old and would declare he wanted to be a dentist when he grew up. By high school, Dr. Hedgecock says he was sure, and he went on to obtain his degree in Biology from the University of Texas (hook ‘em, Horns!) and his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the UT Health Science Center in San Antonio.
After graduating, Dr. Hedgecock spent four years in Joplin, Missouri, working with a federally qualified community health center providing dental care to the underserved. He entered private practice in 2011, where he has enjoyed building better, long-lasting relationships with his patients and team.
Like some Austin dentists today, Dr. Hedgecock offers oral conscious sedation, an easy and effective way to calm your nerves before your dental appointment. Unlike many other general dentists in Austin, Dr. Brandon Hedgecock has also completed extensive training and certification in intravenous (IV) conscious sedation at Georgia Health Sciences University.
If you snore or have sleep apnea, Dr. Hedgecock can also help you get a better night’s sleep with oral appliance therapy. He is a diplomate with the American Sleep and Breathing Academy and the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine.
Dr. Hedgecock also belongs to the following professional organizations:
· ADA (American Dental Association)
· ADSA (American Dental Society of Anesthesiology)
· AADSM (American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine)
Dr. Hedgecock is passionate about ongoing education for himself and his fellow dentists, taking time to travel the country teaching his peers about sleep apnea treatment. To assist him in providing the highest level of teaching as an instructor, Dr. Hedgecock recently became a member of the ICOI (International Congress of Oral Implantologists), the world’s largest provider of continuing dental implant education. He knows the best way to provide his patients with the best care Austin has to offer is by continually improving on his understanding of dentistry.
Quality care is all about balance. We love Dr. Hedgecock because he truly understands that the best way to give his all at work, is to take time to pursue his passions in his off time. His favorite things can best be described with three words: kids, golf, and the UT Longhorns. When he’s not in the office or creating awesome smiles, he’s spending quality time with his son & daughter. Always one to look for a challenge, Dr. Hedgecock also loves to hit the links for a round of golf! When it comes to football season, all he can say is a big ‘Hook em Horns!’ A former football player with the UT Longhorns, Dr. Hedgecock loves to support his alma mater every chance he gets!

How many teeth can an implant hold?
It depends on the situation but typically 1 implant will hold 1 tooth, sometimes 2. However, as you get into more teeth and dentures, fewer implants can hold more teeth. For example, 2 implants can hold 3-4 teeth. And often we can make 4 implants hold a full arch or 12-14 teeth. READ MORE

Yes - gums grow around implants. A properly integrated implant and a crown will appear normal - as if the tooth is growing out of the gums around the implant. READ MORE
What are the disadvantages of having dentures?
The biggest disadvantage is comfort and function. Dentures are not a replacement for teeth - they are a substitute for having no teeth at all. They are bulky and difficult to chew with if they are not anchored by implants. Your chewing ability with complete dentures is about 10% of the "normal" function. READ MORE

Does root canal infection show up on an x-ray?
Chronic root canal infections that have been there for a long time will often show up on an X-ray. However, more recent root infections may not show up at all. This is because enough bone has to be destroyed before the density is such that it will show up on a radiograph. Brandon Hedgecock, DDS READ MORE
